Summer Open Day '08                                           Back To Homepage

Well, after months of hard work building and painting cars, our July Open Day proved to be a welcome break. The morning saw John Turner and Mick Payne working hard on their respective drag cars to get them up and running for the afternoon, with Simon busy with his polishing mop finishing the paintwork on the Artful Dodger. Geoff Sims was busying himself working on his latest piece, a Hyabusa bike tank and faring while Jeff was found organising a tea urn, polystyrene cups and tea bags and locating chairs.

Soon 2PM came and the TEC warriors arrived, bringing with them their usual fine array of cars. After a good look around the workshop and intake of hot brown liquid, others began to arrive. Paul and Vicky, stalwart supporters of the Mitchville Regime arrived with their superb Cossie Anglia, followed by Rob with his Capri, Dean and Sarah with the pinto-powered Mark 2 Escort estate and Johnny H and family in their beautiful Mk1 Escort. Also of note was a yellow Pop and our friends from Faversham with their Ford Galaxie - mmmmmm we likey...

And then the noise began. First was Mick with the Artful Dodger; always a crowd puller this is one of the loudest cars on the strip with its 2000hp funny car engine. The engine has been out of the car for quite a while as Mick has been using it to get the measurements right in his new toy, the ex-Wheelgame Camaro of Gordon Appleton. He decided to get the 'Dodger back together for one last blast for the Mopar Euronats, so our open day was the perfect opportunity to run it up and check all is well.

Then it was John Turners turn. The Greenfish racing Barracuda has been in our workshop since November. As most of you who have followed the project already know, it has had an epic amount of work done to it and it is now finally nearing completion and intended to go, resplendent in its new custom Numbnuts Green paint, to the Mopar Eurnats at the end of the month as well. The car has a freshly built 440 big block Mopar lump now, so it was a pretty serious affair running it up and checking all was working as it should. We know it did from the big grin on John's face as he pumped the throttle and gassed us all out!

So what could we do to top these high octane beasts? Barbecue of course! Fired up and ready to go, burgers were the order of the day followed by more of the hot brown stuff. Aaron and Paul entertained the troops with their more than dubious antics and a visitation from Stu with his dayglo Pop and Tony with the Prison Island Racing Gasser-Pop made the day complete.

On behalf of Simon and the team at Mitchville Autobodies, THANKYOU for making it another great day on the Klondyke! Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked for the next open day, we hope to see you then!

All the Best

Jeff
